Patrick Dempsey touched me

So today could have been another boring day at work like any other slow news day. Except today Patrick Dempsey(Dr. McDreamy) was holding a press conference in Lewiston. Now I never ever get to leave the building except to go to lunch. In my 10 years at the station I have never gone out with a crew to a story. I went into work today knowing about the press conference and I was very forceful in letting the powers that be know that I was going to it. Years of listening to crazy peoples stories on the phone and doing crap work for reporters gave me some leverage in my argument. Our anchor Kim Block and several of the reporters backed me up and soon I found myself heading off to Lewiston. Now I have loved Patrick Dempsey all the way back to high school when Can't Buy Me Love came out. We got there almost as it was starting and before I knew it he walked into the room and was standing 10 feet from me. I had no real role to play in covering the story so I mostly stood there trying to blend in and not getting in any ones way. He was so pretty and so skinny. You hear about and see the thin women in Hollywood but I was surprised by how slight he was because he looks bigger on TV. He was there to open the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center. It was so cute because his mom and sister were there and he almost cried a few times-his mom has survived cancer 3 times and she was why he was doing this. After the press conference ended he did one on one interviews with the media so we ended up in a tiny room with him-I was now about 2 feet from him. He even looked at me and I tried not to melt into the floor. So then as he was leaving some of the nurses were taking pictures with him and Kim was mad she forgot her camera. I pointed out her cell phone took pictures but she said she felt foolish asking for a picture. I said that she might feel foolish for a minute but in the end she would end up with a picture. So she goes up and gets her picture with him. Then she grabs me and says its my turn. Now I barely handled having my picture taken at my wedding and there have only been a few pictures of me taken since that day 11 years ago. So I stood next to him and said something stupid like I never have my picture taken and he put his arm around me and even patted my back a little while she was taking the picture. I know I stopped breathing for at least a minute.
Now a picture of me with him exists in Kim's cellphone. The only problem is she doesn't know how to download it. Shes going to get her 13 year old to show her and maybe I'll post it if I can figure out a way to blur out my face. You can go here to see our story on it. http://www.wgme.com/News/story_video/playFlashVideo.shtml?wgme/flipfactory/WGME_newsf
I hope that link worked because I still have no idea. If it didn't then just go to www.wgme.com and look for the story link.
Well, that's my long boring story about meeting McDreamy. Tomorrow I go back to my normal life of spending 8 hours in a windowless newsroom answering phone calls from people off their medication. Maybe some slow day I'll tell my 2 other stories about the famous people I have met at the station.

OMG I am so feeling your happiness! Good for you and so awesome :) What's this "bluring my face" crap? So silly, you should be proud to let everyone see your brush with greatness! Now if only someone had a camera when I was talking to Ben Orr . . .

Um...may I touch you now? I think I would have keeled over right there on the spot. Don't you love brushes with fame, and the way they reduce us to blubbering idiots? You'd better post a picture!

Heather, transfers of fame touches don't work! ha ha

Kate, I am glad you were able to get out on a story for your station! How fun!

The photo should be able to be sent via email to a regular email address. It may cost a quarter, but it sounds worth it!

The closest I've ever come to a 'brush with fame' is seeing Kenny Rogers at the Maine Mall! Does that even count!!
I'm glad you could go to the press conference! I can't wait to see the picture!
