The Boy Who Lived

Does he look like Harry Potter to you? I think he desperately wants to but he won't admit it. Declan has joined his parents in needing glasses. We suspected it for the past few months but he was very adamant that he could see just fine. We knew better but were sort of in denial about it. Once he failed his eye exam at the pediatricians then we had to face facts. I got my glasses in the 3rd grade too so I should have known. Grace was actually jealous that he got them and we had to make her an eye appointment too. She cried when she found out she didn't need them! I liked a pair that had a rounder frame but he liked these. I don't like how old they make him look. We need to grow the hair in shaggier to make him look younger. He is being very careful with them so far and loves to polish them. I'm glad he has such a good attitude about having them. I think he is surprised at what he has been missing.

If You Give A Boy A Camera

Grace was spending her days at Art Camp last week leaving Tim and Declan alone to do their boy things. Tim decided to take Declan downtown with our cameras to get Declans perspective on Portland.
Here is Dad taking his pictures. He has the much bigger and nicer camera. I have no idea how to even turn it on.
Houseboats on a wharf off Commercial St. These are real houseboats, not like Sleepless In Seattle houseboats. I don't think Tom Hanks is on any of them.
I don't know what The Purple Caterpillar is but I'm picturing a 1960's club where people are dancing the Frug while the Monkees perform. It's probably just a regular old store though.
Cobblestone streets. Nice idea in theory but bumpy as hell in real life. Plus the dangerous wavy guillotine style public art in the grassy square has cost the city thousands but was just sold for $1. This is my favorite one. It looks like a regular parking meter but if you look closely, it has googly eyes. Someone crafted onto a parking meter!

The Great And Powerful Oz

Another brush with greatness at work. I can now say I have less than 1 degree of separation from Oprah Winfrey. The great and powerful Dr. Oz came to visit us because we are gong to start airing his show in September. He will actually take over Oprah's old slot. He held court in our front lobby. The promotions department laid out a table of fruits and vegetables and cookies? I noticed everyone ate the veggies while he was there and ate the cookies after he left.
He was as adorable, enthusiastic and intelligent as he seems on TV. He didn't make us look at trays of gross body parts so that was a plus. His wife is from Maine and he's up here all the time so he is sort of one of us. I don't get a lot of perks at my job but they were passing out free books so I took one.
Then the line formed to have him autograph it. He has that professional signature down pat. I can make out the Kate and the Enjoy but I'm not seeing the Oz. Then came the inevitable...
Posing for the picture with Dr. Oz. I couldn't refuse. I do not have the smiling gene and this picture with a celeb was my worst one yet. Dr. Oz looks good though and that's the top of my head.
